I have years of experience helping individuals and families navigate life's challenges. I specialize in a wide range of areas, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues.
My client-centered approach to therapy is rooted in empathy, compassion and non-judgment. I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where you feel comfortable exploring your thoughts and feelings, and where you can develop the skills and tools you need to thrive.
My mission is to utilize the dichotomy of acceptance and change/growth to provide high-quality counseling services to individuals, couples, and families who are experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties.
CBT is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems which focuses on a person's thought content to address faulty cognitive distortions and shift patterns found in the thoughts to facilitate change.
DBT is an evidence-based psychotherapy which focuses on mindfulness, being aware or attentive to the current situation. It was developed by Marsha Linehan who, based on classical cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), emphasizes dialectic balancing and integration of seemingly opposite ideas. DBT was designed to help people suffering to strengthen a person's ability to handle distress without losing control or acting destructively. It is a skill enhancing form of therapy in treating overwhelming emotions, self-harm, and suicidal ideation.
EMDR is an integrative therapy that utilizes bi-lateral stimulation to rewire the brain and reduce the emotional response of traumatic events or life disturbing experiences. EMDR therapy can also assist individuals break away from the heavy emotional burdens that exist and some of which appear as anxiety, depression, grief, and/or a sense of loss. All ages are susceptible to experiencing all forms of disturbing events and experiences. EMDR therapy can assist any age in the healing process so that you may live the life you are intended for.
“Should I do EMDR…The thought of doing EMDR for my trauma was to say the least terrifying. I thought about all the things that could get worse if I opened up. If I had to start opening up those boxes, would they all open at once? How can I handle doing this and everything else in my life? How might this affect my family and friends? Is EMDR actually going to help or fix me? These were just a small amount of the questions that ran through my mind.
Trauma is scary…Trauma is many things. It’s fear, anger, anxiety, self-hate, depression, shame, guilt, and so much more. Trauma leaves you screaming on the inside, and no one can hear you. It leaves you drowning in the deep end with no one to save you. It tears you down so far that you don’t even like yourself. You feel weak and out of control. So how can EMDR be any scarier than that?
EMDR saved my life…EMDR helped me find myself when I couldn’t. It helped me remember who I used to be and who I wanted to be. It taught me that the most important thing is to love yourself aside from all the trauma. Trauma does not define us, nor can it contain us. It is there and always will be, but we don’t have to let it control our lives. We are in control. So much weight has been lifted with each box I opened and processed. My relationships are deeper and stronger, even ones I thought couldn’t be repaired. I finally know my self-worth and do not need anyone else to validate me. I’m a better wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. By reframing each trauma, I was able to let go of them. EMDR saved my life when I thought that ending it was the only way to fix it.” -Tiff
